Outlook's conversation settings lead to a more efficient Inbox

Posted on 15:23 by Unknown

Outlook's conversation settings lead to a more efficient Inbox

Takeaway: Use Outlook’s conversation view to arrange related messages into meaningful groups.
Outlook displays messages as they’re received, but there are ways to rearrange messages. For instance, you can click the Subject or From title cell to group messages by the Subject or From text, respectively. Sometimes this quick fix is adequate, but sometimes it isn’t because the subject text often changes and threads often have responses from more than just one person.

Conversation view

When things are a bit too complex for a quick sort, use conversation view, but don’t stop at enabling the view. To take full advantage of the view, go a step further and apply the settings that will make the arrangement truly efficient.
To arrange messages by conversation, click the View tab and check the show As Conversation option in the Conversations group. Then, choose All Folders or This Folder. The differences are subtle, but Outlook identifies conversations with a small triangle to the left.

To get the most out of conversation view, apply one or more of the settings. To do so, click the Conversation Settings dropdown. Perhaps the setting that provides the most insight and coverage is the one passed over the most. Be sure to check the Show Messages From Other Folders option, even if all your mail is in the Inbox. That way, Outlook will display messages you sent and stored in the Sent folder. These messages are an important part of the conversation but otherwise omitted from this view.
The Show Senders Above Subject option won’t add much to the view if your Inbox displays one-line headers. If you’re using multi-line headers, this option reverses the order of the From and Subject columns.
The third option, Always Expand Conversations is another setting that most users will want to use. Otherwise, you might lose context while browsing.
By applying the first and third settings, you completely change the view. You can see at a glance that Mary initiated a particular thread and that I (Susan) responded. That’s why you need to include that first setting. If you don’t enable this setting, you’ll see only the original message from Mary.

Many users don’t bother to view Outlook threads as conversations because they don’t seem to get too much from the arrangement. The problem is that they just don’t go far enough-viewing messages as conversations can be helpful, but you won’t always appreciate the real advantages unless you apply the appropriate settings to the conversation view.

A few extras

If you don’t want to use conversation view, you don’t have to. With a message open, you can click the Related dropdown in the Editing group to see a list of all messages related to the current one. This route won’t provide the same flexibility, but it’s handy if you want to avoid conversation view.

When using conversation view, consider positioning the reading pane to the right. Doing so is an efficient way to view all of the messages in the thread quickly. Outlook displays all of the messages in the Reading Pane regardless of its position, but viewing them on the right rather than below displays more text.
In addition, when working in conversation view, Outlook will apply many actions to all of the messages in the conversation, not just the current one. For instance, you can apply a category to a conversation by applying it to a single message. Later, when more messages in the conversation arrive, Outlook will automatically apply the same category to the incoming messages

How Can I Disable the UAC user account control on Windows Vista Computer

Posted on 13:09 by Unknown
Windows Vista has the built-in ability to automatically reduce the potential of security breaches in the system. It does that by automatically enabling a feature called User Account Control (or UAC for short). The UAC forces users that are part of the local administrators group to run like they were regular users with no administrative privileges.
Read more about UAC here: What's User Account Control in Windows Vista?
Running Windows 7? Also see our article on disabling UAC for Windows 7.
Although UAC clearly improves the security on Windows Vista, under some scenarios you might want to disable it, for example when giving demos in front of an audience (demos that are not security related, for example). Some home users might be tempted to disable UAC because of the additional mouse clicking it brings into their system, however I urge them not to immediately do so, and try to get used to it instead.
Anyway, if required, you can disable UAC by using one of the following methods:

Method #1 - Using MSCONFIG

  1. Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.
  2. Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC" . Click on that line.
    MSCONFIG - Disable Account Protection
  3. Press the Launch button.
  4. A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.
  5. Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.
You can re-enable UAC by selecting the "Enable UAC" line and then clicking on the Launch button.
*Recommended: Speed up Vista boot times by reducing the number of programs that load at startup. Control your Vista startup list with this Vista app

Method #2 - Using Regedit

  1. Open Registry Editor.
  2. In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  3. Locate the following value (DWORD): EnableLUA and give it a value of 0.
    Regedit - Disable UAC
  4. Note: As always, before making changes to your registry you should always make sure you have a valid backup. In cases where you're supposed to delete or modify keys or values from the registry it is possible to first export that key or value(s) to a .REG file before performing the changes.
  5. Close Registry Editor. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.
In order to re-enable UAC just change the above value to 1.

Method #3 - Using Group Policy

This can be done via Local Group Policy or via Active Directory-based GPO, which is much more suited for large networks where one would like to disable UAC for many computers at once.
If using Local Group Policy you'll need to open the Group Policy Editor (Start > Run > gpedit.msc) from your Vista computer.
If using in AD-based GPO, open Group Policy Management Console (Start > Run > gpmc.msc) from a Vista computer that is a member of the domain. In the GPMC window, browse to the required GPO that is linked to the OU or domain where the Vista computers are located, then edit it.
  1. In the Group Policy Editor window, browse to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.
    Group Policy - Disable UAC
  2. In the right pane scroll to find the User Access Control policies (they're down at the bottom of the window). You need to configure the following policies:Group Policy - Disable UAC
  3. You'll need to reboot your computers.

Method #4 - Using Control Panel

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Under User Account and Family settings click on the "Add or remove user account".
    Add or remove user account
  3. Click on one of the user accounts, for example you can use the Guest account.
  4. Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.
Go to the Main User Accounts Page
  5. Under "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.
    Change security settings
  6. In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.
    Turn on AUC
  7. You will be prompted to reboot your computer. Do so when ready.
    Disable UAC - Reboot
In order to re-enable UAC just select the above checkbox and reboot.

Outlook show CIS Link infront of JPG or Picture

Posted on 12:21 by Unknown
elitebuyer corp 562-366-4177
To help protect you from junk e-mail senders, Microsoft Outlook is configured by default to block automatic picture downloads from the Internet. This article explains why blocking pictures can help protect your computer and how you can unblock pictures you feel are safe to download.
Advantages of blocking automatic picture downloads include:
  • Helping you avoid viewing potentially offensive material (when external content is linked to the message).
  • Helping to keep malicious code from damaging the data on your computer.
  • If you are on a low-bandwidth connection, blocking allows you to decide whether a particular image warrants the time and bandwidth that are required for downloading it.
For information on how "spammers" and other junk e-mail senders attempt to collect information from you and possibly harm the data on your computer, see What are Web beacons, and how do they generate more spam?
In this article
  • Unblock picture downloads for a single message
  • Unblock picture downloads for all messages
  • Unblock picture downloads for all messages from a specific e-mail address or domain

Unblock picture downloads for a single message

You can unblock downloads of linked pictures and other external content for a single message that comes from a source that you trust:
  • Click the InfoBar at the top of the message, and then click Download Pictures.InfoBar
Note   When you click Download Pictures in a message that you are previewing in the Reading Pane, the message is automatically saved and displays the pictures again the next time that you open the message. When you click Download Pictures in an open message, if you want the message to display the pictures the next time that you open the message, you must save the message.

Unblock picture downloads for all messages

  1. On the Tools menu, click Trust Center, and then click Automatic Download.
  2. Clear the Don't download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items check box.

Unblock picture downloads for all messages from a particular e-mail address or domain

  1. In an open message that was sent from that e-mail address or domain, right-click one of the blocked items.
  2. On the shortcut menu, click Add Sender to Safe Senders List or Add the Domain @domain to Safe Senders List.

How to Calculate Days Between Dates in Excel

How to Calculate Days Between Dates in Excel
    • Open a new workbook in Microsoft Excel. Type the start date in a cell. For example, type 12/22/1982 in cell A1.
    • Type the end date in another blank cell. As an example, type 6/8/2009 as the end date in cell A2.
    • Click on a blank cell and type "=DAYS360(start_date, end_date, method)". In the example above, the formula would be =DAYS360(A1,A2), which returns 9526 days. The formula assumes 360 days in a year (12 months with 30 days). The method argument specifies the calculation method. It can be left blank when working with U.S. dates, but must be set to TRUE when working with European dates.

Cannot run computer management on Mircosoft OS.

Posted on 12:37 by Unknown
Try entering compmgmt.msc in Start / Search box and enter.  Double click on the program icon that appears and see if it opens.  I doubt this will work if clicking on the executable file didn't work, but it's worth a try.

Let's check some of your system files:

Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / Command Prompt and right click on command prompt and click run as Administrator.

Type sfc /scannow and enter and let it run.

It will scan and try to fix some system files.  Hopefully it will complete without any errors it couldn't repair (if such errors occur, post back here).

While you're in command prompt type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  It will look for and fix/mark bad sectors (and one of the computer management files may be in a bad sector which can be moved unless it's hopelessly corrupted).

Are you certain the problem is limited to Computer Management/  Have you tried to enter EventViewer or Services or anyghing else in Administrative Tools?  Please try.

Do you have a genuine Windows Vista Installation Disk (or can you borrow one from ANYONE).  If none of these efforts work, our next logical step would be a system repair/upgrade and we need the disk to do that.  They aren't copy-protected so you can use anyone's copy with your own product key which governs the version installed.

Let's see where this gets us.  Good luck and I hope this helps.  If it doesn't really try hard to get your hands on a disk.

great apps to handle emergency recoveries for your Computer

Great apps to handle emergency recoveries on your computer

Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier

Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier does one thing and it does it well: It copies data from broken drives. And it's good at it. But UC isn't just for getting data off broken drives. You can also use it as a daily backup (using the Batch Mode function).

BlueScreenView

There is one catch here. I am a fan of the CCleaner tool. By default, CCleaner is set up to remove all those memory dump files. So if you use CCleaner, be sure you uncheck the option to delete those files. Otherwise, a tool like BlueScreenView will be of no use

BlueScreenView

When Windows blue screens, it spits out a core dump that contains a lot of valuable  information. BlueScreenView scans the dump files and displays information about the BSOD crashes in table format, making troubleshooting much easier.

PuTTY

Being able to secure shell into a remote machine at all times is invaluable. The use of the simple RDP protocol is fine for some, but it's not nearly as secure as it should be. If you want your remote logins to be secure, add a little ssh goodness to your toolkit. PuTTY gives you just that.

KNOPPIX

KNOPPIX is a live Linux distribution that can fit on a flash drive. With it, you can boot into a full-blown Linux distribution that contains many helpful tools.

ComboFix

ComboFix is the Mac Daddy of virus and malware removal tool. After a successful run of ComboFix, you should have cleaned (if applicable) malware, rootkits, Trojans, worms, and viruses.
