A System Image is an exact copy of everything that is on your hard drive (at that point in time) which can be used to recover it back to an operational state if your hard drive crashes or freezes up.
Procedure:
Navigate to Start – Control Panel – System and Security – Backup and Restore. Select on Create a System Image Disc.

The Create a System Image Disc dialog box opens where you can choose where you want to save your System Image Disc. You can save it on your hard drive, on a DVD or a network location. For our example, we choose to save the System Image on a DVD. Click Next to continue.

Note: If applicable, you can include other drives in your System Image backup but keep in mind that this will increase the size of the image.
The confirmation screen lists your settings for the System Image Disc. If you want to make some changes, click the back arrow button on the top left. If you are fine with the settings, click Start Backup.

The System Image Disc would then be created, the time it takes is dependent on the size of the backup. Once completed, you are asked if you want to Create a System Repair disc. A System Repair disc is essential as it is used to re-image your computer from a system image. Click Yes to continue.

Select a CD/DVD to create the System Repair disc on and click Create disc.

If you have to restore your System Image in the event of a hard drive failure, you would be able to use the System Recovery Options – System Image Recovery.

5) Click on Protocol type and select ICMP4 as shown below. ICMP4 is the protocol used in ping command when your network is communicating with IPv4.

6) Since we are going to apply this rule for any IP, means responds to any IP addresses coming with echo request, select ‘Any IP addresses’ in next screen. You can add specific IP addresses also, if you want your windows 7 computer to respond to them only for ICMP echo request (ping )

7) Allow the connection in next screen, press Next.
8.) Keep the all three check boxes checked in the next screen, to apply this rule any type of network you connected.
9) Give a name to this rule. This name will be showing under Inbound Rules in Windows Firewall. In future you can delete the rule by this name.

Click Finish.
10) That’s it; these are easy steps to enable ping in windows 7 and the rule will be immediately applied and appeared in inbound rules. Now, Windows 7 computer will be responding to ICMP echo ping requests without disabling or stopping the windows firewall.

How To Create a Customized Windows 7 Installation Disc With Integrated Updates

Do you want to save time when installing Windows 7? You can create a customized installation disc and have it perform an installation without asking you questions, integrate updates and drivers, tweak Windows, and remove Windows components.
We’ll be using RT Se7en Lite for this – if you’ve used nLite with Windows XP or vLite with Windows Vista in the past, it works similarly. RT Se7en Lite is a sort of vLite or nLite for Windows 7.

What You’ll Need

To do this, you’ll need Windows 7 installed on your computer. You’ll also need to download and install the Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK) for Windows 7 from Microsoft – RT Se7en Lite is a more user friendly frontend to WAIK.
WAIK is 1.7 GB, so the download may take a while if you have a slow Internet connection. After downloading it, extract it with a file extraction program such as 7-Zip.

Run the StartCD.exe file, select Windows AIK Setup, and follow the instructions on your screen to install Windows AIK.

You’ll also need a Windows 7 installation source – either a physical disc or ISO file.
Next, download and install RT Se7en Lite from here – it’s free and donation-supported. Download the appropriate version for your version of Windows — x86 if you’re using a 32-bit version of Windows or x64 if you’re using a 64-bit edition.

Using RT Se7en Lite

First, click the Browse button and provide your Windows 7 files – if you have an ISO file on your hard drive, click Select ISO file and navigate to it. If you have a Windows disc, insert the disk, click Select OS path, and navigate to the disc.

If you provide an ISO, you’ll have to specify an extraction path where the ISO’s files will be extracted to – you’ll need several gigabytes of space on your hard disk for this.

The files will be automatically extracted after you provide your ISO.

After selecting the edition of Windows 7 you’re customizing, RT Se7en Lite will load the image. If you have a Windows 7 disc without Service Pack 1 integrated, click the Slipstream Service Pack option in the “Select an image to configure” window and you’ll be able to integrate SP1.
Click over to the Task pane and select the tasks you want to perform after the image is loaded. You can manually check the check boxes or select a preset. Selecting one of the check boxes will activate the corresponding configuration pane at the left side of the window.

The integration pane allows you to integrate Windows updates, drivers, language packs, and even third-party applications into your installation disc. To integrate updates, you’ll have to download their installer files and load them into RT Seven Lite with the Add button.

On the Features Removal or Components tab, you can permanently remove components from your Windows installation disc and control which Windows features are installed by default. For example, you can remove the included games from your Windows installer disc, or force Windows to install the IIS web server by default.

The Tweaks tab allows you to customize the default settings for the Windows Control Panel, Desktop, Explorer, and a variety of other Windows components. You can even add custom registry settings to tweak other settings that aren’t present in the list.

The Unattended section allows you to create an unattended installation disc – you provide answers to installation questions beforehand and Windows will install without asking you these questions during the installation process.
For example, you can enter your product key ahead of time so Windows won’t ask you for it. The other tabs allow you to control other settings – for example, selecting the hard disks that Windows will install on. If you complete enough of these settings, Windows will install automatically without asking you any questions during the installation, allowing you to perform an unattended Windows installation.

The Customization pane allows you to add custom screensavers, wallpapers, themes, documents, and even logon screens to your Windows 7 disc.

On the ISO Bootable pane, you can create a ISO image from your customized installation disc. You can also burn it to a DVD or copy it to a bootable USB drive.

RT Se7en Lite’s developers recommend booting your custom Windows 7 image in a virtual machine and installing it in the virtual machine before you use it on a physical computer, just to make sure everything is working properly.

Connecting with WiFi Router

Now your computer will be discoverable under the hood of HomeGroup. All the computers who have joined this Home Network HomeGroup can view & share your computer’s public files and folders.
When any HomeGroup user will try to view or share files with you, he will be prompted for username and password credentials.

Apparently they are not authorized to access your public files and folders yet. To get it over with and allow HomeGroup users to freely access your public folders, go to Network and Sharing Center and from left sidebar, click Change advance Sharing Settings.

It will lead you to Advance Sharing settings, now scroll-down to find Password protected sharing section, enable Turn Off password protected sharing option and click Save Changes.

Now on opening your public folder from other end would not prompt that user for any account credentials. In layman’s term, your public folder will become accessible to anyone who has joined the Home Network Homegroup.

In Network and Sharing Center, click WiFi network name to view the computers connected to the same HomeGroup. For viewing others’ public files and folders, just double-click the desired computer name.

Without Router (Ad-Hoc Connection)

Windows 7, with Adhoc connection, brings the easiest way around to connect with other computers when there is no wireless router around. It provides seamless connectivity with other computers having Wifi support. In this procedure we will be connecting our two notebooks (PC1 and PC2) with each other (both having WiFi capability).
To start off with, first turn On your WiFi and from Network system tray button, click open Network and Sharing Center.

Network and Sharing Center window will appear, click Setup up a new connection network. It will bring up a new dialog, scroll down and click Set up a wireless ad hoc network and click Next.


In this step enter an appropriate name of an ad-hoc network. If you want to create security-enabled network with password protection, then choose desired option from Security type and enter security key. Click Save this network to save this ad-hoc connection. Click Next to continue

The ad-hoc connection is now successfully created.

To connect it with second notebook, first turn on it’s wifi and from system tray network menu, under specified network name, click Connect.

Upon click, both notebooks (PC1 and PC2) will be connected. From Network and Sharing center of both PCs, change the network group to HomeGroup. If file sharing needs username/password credentials, then turn-off the Password protected sharing (as mentioned above).
Open Network and Sharing Center, double-click network connection, it will open Network window showing the connected computers. Now the connection is established and you can freely access files and folders from each other.

Apart from sharing public files and folders, you can also enable sharing of personal folders by going to their respective Properties and clicking Share under the Sharing tab. That’s it, now wasn’t that easy? Enjoy!

Delete User Profile on Windows 7 Domain Computer

There are hundreds of reasons why the local profile of a domain user would need to be deleted, in fact, too many to list. The main reasons why a profile gets deleted from a machine in a domain environment is because the profile is either corrupt or to save disk space. A corrupt profile can be caused by many things such as a virus or an application being installed that is not compatible with Windows 7. To save disk space, administrators usually setup a script or Group Policy Object that removes the cached profiles from computers. There have been recent additions to the way profiles have been stored in Windows 7, which are outlined below.
Microsoft introduced a whole new way of storing profiles in Windows Vista and Windows 7. In Windows 7, the cached profile is copied from the server to the "C:\users" folder as well as a key is created in the Registry with information about the user and profile. A UID (user i-d) is created to give that user a specific one which differentiates a logon profile path from another's. Basically, if you delete a user's folder in "C:\users", then the person whose profile you deleted won't be able to logon. A message will come up saying that the user profile service isn't running, but it's because the operating system is trying to create a folder and it's not matching with the UID created before. The quick fix is to go into the Registry and delete it manually. Microsoft supports a way to remove a user's profile along with the registry key using a GUI provided with the Windows operating system automatically. Mind you, in Windows XP, this was never an issue about profiles being deleted.
Below are two different ways to delete a user's profile. The first way is the Microsoft supported way, and the second method is how to do it manually by going into Windows Explorer and the Registry.
Microsoft Supported Way:
1. Open your start menu and type in the search bar "advanced user"
2. Open "Configure advanced user profile properties"
3. Select the profile you would like to delete and press delete
4. Select yes (the profile is completely removed now)
Unsupported Way:
1. Restart the computer to "unlock" the user accounts so they can be deleted
2. Open Windows Explorer to "C:\Users"
3. Right click the profile you would like to delete and press delete and the yes.
4. Open "regedit.exe"
5. Navigate to "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList"
6. Click the sub-key that corresponds with the profile you deleted and right click and delete it

Real World Data Recovery Scenario

• Search Lost Volume is the deepest type of scan. It searches every sector on the drive and will try and piece together lost or deleted volumes on the drive.

For our example, we’re going to select the “quick” recovery.  For starters, this will scan the drive very quickly, so rather than waiting around for the deep scan, it’s worth waiting the few seconds to see if this quick scan can find your file and if it doesn't, you can then start using the deeper (and more time consuming) scans.

Start the scan.

You’ll notice that it hasn’t completely recovered the original folder structure.  A deeper scan would most likely recover all of the folders as they were last set up but this doesn’t mean it can’t recover our deleted files with the quick scan.  To check, we search for the file name.

Fortunately we knew the name of the file, and Data Recovery Pro found 2 versions of the file.  We can verify that this is the right file because a thumbnail is provided.  This is useful if you can’t remember the exact name too, that way you don’t have to waste time recovering files you don’t need.

Once we have found the file, we select the file we want and then click on “recover”. This prompts us with a few options.  A nice perk is the recover to FTP server, for today we don’t need this. Instead we simply recover the file to a new folder we created on our desktop. For simplicity, I named it “Recovery”.  Inside we find images, in-tact and there for our use.
